Bowdoin College recently completed a renovation of their athletic fields.

New full cutoff lighting was installed – that means Bowdoin no longer pays for electricity to generate useless photons that go up into the sky. The fields themselves are not under-lit at all. Also, the lights have an online accessible timer function such that the lights turn off (or dim) at the appropriate time following a game or practice.

Bowdoin earned certification from Dark Sky International (DSI) for their outstanding lighting implementation. Both SMA and DSI were proud to congratulate them on that achievement. SMA sent Bowdoin a letter of certification which can be viewed here.
